The Dead Diocese lauds a modernist

Upon the death of Bishop Feeney on September 15, 1969, Gerety succeeded him as the eighth Bishop of Portland.[5] During his tenure in Portland, he implemented what were perceived to be the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council by modernizing the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, through the removal of the high altarcathedrapulpit, and communion rail.[7He also provided housing for the elderly and expanded the Diocesan Bureau of Human Relations.[

Of course, there was no call for the new Iconoclasm that destroyed so many beautiful and irreplaceable monuments to the Faith of the common man who had paid for them with his hard earned money.

Oncet, ABS was inside of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception taking photos of the beautiful stained glass windows when an elderly janitor approached him to inform him the Cathedral would be locked up in a few minutes.

ABS had just moved to Maine from Vermont and so he asked the janitor about the lack of a High Altar, Communion Rails etc and the tears of the janitor began to spill over from his eyes:

We had heard rumors that the Bishop was going to take down the Altar and so some of us (Mainly Italian  Tradesmen from Munoy Hill) asked him if the rumors were true and he promised us the Altar would never leave the Cathedral.

It turns out he was being nominally truthful because when Gerety had the Italian Marble High Altar jackhammered to smithereens, he had it stored in the basement of the Cathedral.

O, and of course he was the one who created the disgraceful Renew program which was a complete and utter heretical joke that featured ugly renew trees being erected in sanctuaries next to an altar:

But, this is the sort of cleric the Dead Diocese of Portland, Maine chooses to laud with praise - and some bright shining lies

At the time Gerety was appointed auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Portland, funds had been allocated for the renovation of the Cathedral in keeping with the changes of Vatican II. Because there was no clear consensus as to what exactly was to be done and because of Bishop Feeney's illness, the role of mediator fell to Bishop Gerety. He was instrumental in implementing the objectives of Vatican II. This was mainly achieved by making it possible structurally, as well as cosmetically, within the Cathedral for a more active participation of the faithful. Among the somewhat controversial changes instituted by Bishop Gerety were removal of the ornate marble high altar, the bishop's throne, pulpit, and communion rail. Following the renovation, in 1969, the Cathedral had a less ornate, more modern appearance.

(It looked more protestant)

ABS has a theory about Bishop Gerety. Because of who he was and what he did - he was a destroyer - ABS thinks he was a Spirit-of-Vatican-Two Prototype Bishop developed at Bath Iron Works:

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Christens Future USS Thomas Hudner

BATH, Maine On April 1, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works christened the U.S. Navy’s newest guided - missile destroyer, Thomas Hudner (DDG 116). The ship is named for Capt. Thomas Hudner Jr., who intentionally crash landed his plane in an effort to save Ensign Jesse Brown, the nation’s first African - American Navy pilot, during the Korean War’s Chosin Reservoir campaign.
The Saturday morning christening ceremony took place at Bath Iron Works’ shipyard...

Of course, BIW was once infamous amongst the local faithful because it had taken the lead role in developing a prototype stealth destroyer, one Peter Gerety, who was secretly christened Bishop and was launched under the cover of darkness in the middle of a moonless night Dec. 8, 1965 just as the Second Vatican Council was brought to an end - fully three years too late as it turns out.

In 1966, after months of rigorous testing in the volatile wake of Vatican Two, Peter Gerety was named Bishop of Portland, Maine on March 4, 1966 and he immediately began his career as a destroyer of Tradition advancing surreptitiously in the dangerous waters of modernism well camouflaged by his social activism.
