St. Paul's in London

CATHEDRAL

Definition

The official church of a bishop, where his permanent episcopal throne is erected. It is the mother church of a diocese and its clergy have precedence. The cathedral must be consecrated, and the date of consecration and the date of its titular feast must be observed liturgically. (Etym. Latin cathedra, a chair, stool, throne; Greek kathedra, seat.)

In designing and building St Pauls, Mr. Wren created one of the biggest enclosed empty spaces in London.

There exists no Bishop who has his cathedra there for an Anglican Bishop is a layman playing dress-up. He received no Holy Orders.

Wherefore, strictly adhering, in this matter, to the decrees of the pontiffs, our predecessors, and confirming them most fully, and, as it were, renewing them by our authority, of our own initiative and certain knowledge, we pronounce and declare that ordinations carried out according to the Anglican rite have been, and are, absolutely null and utterly void.

There are no priests, Mass or Eucharist inside – just a gigantic piece of architecture enclosing empty space.

When ABS and The Bride went to Wren’s idol to idleness ABS could hear John Cleese shrieking What is the point. I mean what is the point? from an old Monty Python Episode.

Catholics have Churches, Protestants have buildings

Was that too churlish?
